Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has official joined Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Havi was received to the party by Ruto at his Karen residence while donning UDA’s party merchandise.
“Good to receive lawyer Nelson Havi, the President of the Law Society of Kenya, who has declared interest to contest the Westlands parliamentary seat on a United Democratic Party ticket,” Ruto tweeted.
Present to welcome him to the party were; Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, former National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, and MPs Kimani Ichung’wah and Rigathi Gachagua.
Havi has defected from Amani National Congress (ANC) party which he had joined only months ago in May 2021.
This comes after he announced his intentions to vie for the Westlands Parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2022 General Election.
Announcing his parliamentary bid, Havi said he is not after the lucrative pay but service to Kenyans.
“I am not going to parliament because I am looking for money. I am not going to hide money I have stolen before. I have no flaws. I am capable of serving,” said Havi in an interview with a local radio station.
Havi explained that his decision to run for MP seat was made after he was approached by the constituency’s residents asking him to represent them.
“I have accepted the request of the people of Westlands Constituency to serve them and the nation in that capacity – MP effective August 2022 or earlier in the event parliament is dissolved,” Havi said.
