The investigations into the murder of the late Dutch golfer Tob Cohen seems to be spiraling over out of control pitting Cohen’s friends and city lawyer Philip Murgor who is representing wife to the deceased.
Yesterday, Murgor accused former Gatundu North legislator Patrick Muiruri of alleged intimidation following an altercation at Cohen’s burial ceremony on Tuesday at the Jewish Cemetery in Nairobi.
Although the alleged scuffle went largely unnoticed, Murgor said highly charged Muiruri advanced towards him threatening to deal with him from “outside.” Murgor said.
Through a formal complaint recorded at Parklands Police Station and booked under Occurrence Book number 50/25/09/2019, Murgor said Muiruri’s alleged outburst amounts to threats.
“Given the unexplained leading role, interest and positions taken publicly by Mr Muiruri in the case facing my client Mrs. Sarah Cohen, I take this outburst as a threat in an attempt to intimidate me as an advocate for Mrs.Cohen, I have therefore taken decision to record my complaint with yourself, and ask that you immediately commence investigation regarding the intention of and the threats by the said Mr. Patrick Muiruri.” Murgor said.
The complaint was addressed to Parklands Police Station Officer Commanding Station was also copied to the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti and Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji.
By yesterday evening, attempts to contact Muiruri for comment proved futile as his phone went unanswered.
Murgor says hell broke loose when he approached Muiruri’s daughter, Wanja Muiruri requesting her that the funeral was private prompting the former legislator’s retaliation.
“I was confronted by one Patrick Muiruri, a Kiambu politician who menacingly shouted at me not to pick on his daughter but on him if I wanted a confrontation. I had politely requested the daughter of Muiruri to leave the cemetery, as the funeral was agreed to be a private ceremony for family only.” Murgor added.
The former Director of Public Prosecutions said Muiruri was restrained by lawyer Chege Kirundi and lawyer Cliff Ombeta.
Muiruri has been vocal since Cohen’s body was found in an underground tank within his Kitusuru residence.
Muiruri and his daughter we also present during the postmortem examination of Cohen at Chiromo Mortuary where the remanded window was also present.
Wairimu is expected to plead to murder charges today at Milimani High Court in Nairobi.
