Woman released on Sh10,000 bail after assaulting househelp over wet clothes

A woman who was captured on camera assaulting her neighbour’s housemaid for hanging wet clothes which were dripping water on her balcony was yesterday arraigned before a Kisumu court.
Appearing before Winam Law Courts Senior Resident Magistrate Chrispine Oruo, the accused, Grace Aketch was charged with the offence of causing actual bodily harm on Beryl Achieng.
However, she pleaded not guilty to the charge pressed against her and was released on a cash bail of Sh10,000 with an alternative bond of Sh30,000.
“I therefore release you on a bond bond of Sh30,000,” the magistrate ruled.
The case is set to be heard on March 2, 2022.
The court heard that on October 24, 2021 at Mamboleo area, Aketch assaulted Achieng leaving her bruised in some parts of the body.
In the video that went viral on the social media, Aketch who is the head of Gender Based Violence at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching And Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), was seen slapping the complainant leaving her with injuries in her body.
She accused Achieng of trespassing into her compound, hanging her employers clothes in her balcony arguing that water from the wet clothes was dripping inside her house.
When they had gone to report the matter at Mamboleo police post, the complainant and her employer were shocked to be informed that the accused person had already reported the incident.
According to court documents, the accused is said to have committed the offence contrary to section 251 of the penal code.
