Woman in court over Sh200,000 Denmark job scam

A woman has been hauled to court after allegedly pocketing Sh200,000 from a job seeker by falsely promising to secure him employment in Denmark.
Leah Wanjiku appeared before Nairobi Principal Magistrate Paul Mutai and denied obtaining money by false pretences.
The prosecution told the court that Wanjiku allegedly received the money from Alexander Kyalo Peter after claiming she could help him secure a job in Denmark.
Investigators allege that Wanjiku knew the promise was false when she made it.
The alleged fraud occurred on September 30, 2025, at Absa Towers along Loita Street in Nairobi.
The case was brought before court following investigations into the alleged employment scam, with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) subsequently approving the charges.
The prosecution alleges that Peter parted with the Sh200,000 believing that Wanjiku was capable of facilitating his employment in Denmark.
Wanjiku pleaded not guilty to the charge when she was arraigned.
Principal Magistrate Mutai released her on a Sh100,000 bond as she awaits trial.
The case will be mentioned on September 22, 2026, when the court is expected to issue pre-trial directions.
