Woman found murdered at Gems Lodge in Voi, Taita Taveta
Police in Taita Taveta County have launched a manhunt for a suspect following the killing of a 45-year-old woman at a lodge in Voi Township.
The incident occurred at Gems Lodge, where the victim, identified as Lucy Musau, is reported to have checked into a room at around 5:00 a.m. in the company of an unidentified man.
According to preliminary police reports, the man was later seen leaving the room carrying a gas cylinder, an action that raised suspicion among staff.
Concerned colleagues went to check on Musau after noticing the unusual departure and found her lying motionless on the bed. She was immediately reported to authorities.
Police officers and crime scene investigators who arrived at the scene established that the deceased had visible marks on both sides of her neck, indicating possible strangulation.
Investigators also noted traces of faecal matter on the bed, which they said would form part of forensic analysis.
The body was later moved to Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi, where a medical officer confirmed her death.
The body was moved to the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Detectives have since launched investigations and are pursuing leads to identify and arrest the suspect, who remains at large.
