United Opposition leaders aim barbs at Ruto over govt posts sharing jibe
The United Opposition leaders today trained their guns at President William Ruto throwing barbs at him following government slots sharing jibe directed at them.
While taking turns one after another while attending the burial of Terry Kariuki, the wife of the late J.M. Kariuki, at Kanyamwe Farm in Gilgil, Nakuru county, they hit back at President Ruto over his claims that they’re driven by political greed, saying the Head of State is worried by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s reception in Nyanza, which they say complicates his political matrix.
In a row, they took a swipe at Ruto, calling him a confused President, and said his political calculations have hit a dead end as the opposition is now acceptable in Nyanza.
Among those in attendance were Kalonzo, former Deputy President and Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa among others.
“Huyu Kasongo niliona akilia anasema kuna wanaume watano wamekutana kugawa serikali. Amechanganyikiwa tangu aende Bondo kulia machozi ya uongo, familia ya Mama Ida ikasema Kalonzo anatambuliwa sasa amechanganyikiwa,” Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua said.
They dismissed accusations that the opposition is out to ring-fence their own interests by forming government, insisting that they have one core mission — to remove President Ruto from power.
“Hao wanaume na mama mmoja wanakutana kupanga vile utaenda nyumbani. Kazi yetu ni kukutoa serikalini, tutapanga baadaye,” added Gachagua.
On his part, Gachagua described the iconic Kenyans’ hero as an enduring source of inspiration for those who have fought for the rights of the Kenyan people.
Gachagua emphasised that JM Kariuki’s legacy of standing up against injustice and advocating for the welfare of ordinary Kenyans continues to resonate today.
In his remarks, Gachagua drew a personal connection to JM Kariuki, stating that he is committed to fighting the same battles Kariuki championed.
He declared that, like Kariuki, he will not be cowed by intimidation or threats, reiterating his determination to liberate Kenyans from poor leadership and mismanagement that continue to hinder the country’s progress.
Responding to President William Ruto’s assertion that the opposition’s plans are solely focused on sharing the country, Gachagua countered by accusing the opposition of having a different agenda.
He argued that the opposition’s primary goal is to take Ruto out of office, citing mismanagement and widespread corruption during his tenure as reasons for their stance.
Gachagua also revisited the circumstances surrounding JM Kariuki’s assassination, revealing that those responsible came from his own community.
He called on community members, particularly from Central Kenya, to be vigilant and to identify and distance themselves from traitors within their ranks.
He urged voters to remember the importance of loyalty and integrity when casting their ballots, warning against supporting individuals with questionable allegiances.
Kalonzo underscored that Kariuki’s ideals of justice, equality, and service to the people should continue to guide Kenya’s future.
On his part, Eugene Wamalwa, leader of the DAP-K party, stressed unity within the opposition.
“Wengine wanasema that the President wants to speak to us. If you want to speak to us, you must do so through our spokesperson,” DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa stated.
He assured that the opposition will remain steadfast and united, emphasizing that they will not join the government at any cost, in pursuit of their principles and the country’s best interests.
