President Uhuru Kenyatta plans to embark on a week-long trip to Mount Kenya to solidify his influence there. This will be his first visit to the region after the changes in the Jubilee Party took place.
While in the region, he will commission several development projects that will revitalise Kenya’s economy as he drums up support for the Azimio presidential candidate, Raila Odinga.
“His countrywide campaigns will start with the mountain. We do not just want him to campaign, the President will also commission projects.
President Kenyatta will show us which direction to take. It is obvious Mt Kenya is with Martha Karua. She is the person we will look up to when the boss leaves the office,” said Kieni Member of Parliament and Jubilee director of elections, Kanini Kega.
According to the lawmaker, Uhuru will begin his tour in Nyeri County before continuing to other parts of Mt Kenya.
The Head of State will officially open Mwai Kibaki Hospital, which was formerly Kenyatta National Hospital Othaya Annex.
He will later launch the Sh350million Narumoru Level Four Hospital, which has a capacity of 170 beds, before visiting Chaka Market, which has been renovated at a cost of Sh1billion.
President Uhuru is also expected to commission the Karicheni Apparel Centre project, which will tailor-make military and police uniforms and employ over 5,000 youth.
He will also pay a visit to Kimathi University and lay the foundation for the Sh3billion Cancer Centre.
According to Joseph Nduati, Gatanga Member of Parliament, the finer details of the tour including the dates will be revealed soon.
Uhuru Kenyatta will meet Mt Kenya leaders allied to the Azimio-One Kenya Coalition to plan his tour of the region.
However, Raila Odinga will not be present on the president’s upcoming visit.
