Hussein Tene, United Democratic Alliance’s Isiolo gubernatorial candidate has abruptly announced that he will be stepping down in favour of the incumbent governor, Godana Doyo.
His decision was attributed to TIFA polls surveys which disclosed how Doyo was very popular and leading largely in the polls with 45 per cent, closely trailed by Abdi Guyo, who is the Nairobi City County Assembly Majority Leader.
“Today, I have officially stepped down for my brother Godana Doyo,” he said during a meeting attended by the current governor.
In January, Borana elders evaluated six leaders for Isiolo’s gubernatorial race in which Doyo was chosen as the favourite candidate.
Tene was among the six leaders being vetted by the elders.
Tene was unsatisfied by the decision and later claimed that the procedure had been rigged. This, he blamed on a few egocentric elders whose opinions ultimately were in vain as the residents of Isiolo would be the eventual deciders.
With the August 9 general elections near and time ebbing away fast, this has left a devastating mark in UDA’s camp as his withdrawal was just 21 days to the general election.
“I thank God because this is a historic moment as a county” remarked Doyo after the stepdown of Tene and his running mate Mugabe “I’m humbled by their noble gesture” he continued.
Kenneth Turibo Maore of PNU and Kimaita Machuguma of Safina party are some of the candidates also vying for the Isiolo gubernatorial position.
