Two more suspects arrested over assassination of Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were
DCI recovered a bag and the footwear that the assassin was wearing on the day when the heinous act was committed
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested two more suspects involved in the assassination of the late Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were.
In an update issued, the DCI Communications Director John Marete identified the two as Edwin Odour Odhiambo alias Abdul Rashid and Dennis Sewe Munyasi, even though he did not share the time, place, and day when they were arrested.
“Two more suspects, Edwin Odour Odhiambo, also known as Abdul Rashid and Dennis Sewe Munyasi, have been arrested,” Marete stated.
He revealed that two pistols, a Retay Falcon, and Sarsilmaz were recovered from the house of Edwin Odour, where Marete says the suspects led the detectives to.
The sleuths also recovered nine rounds of 9mm ammunition from the house of Odhiambo.
It was further revealed that the DCI recovered a bag and the footwear that the assassin was wearing on the day when the heinous act was committed, which they have all been submitted for forensic investigations.
“A bag and Footwear matching the description of those worn by one of the suspects at the scene of the incident were also recovered. They have all been submitted for forensic examination,” Marete added.
This comes after the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Court allowed the detention of four suspects who were arrested last weekend in connection with the murder.
Police spokesperson Nyaga Muchiri stated that investigations by the Police placed the four suspects at the crime Scene following an operation, adding that they recovered crucial evidence that linked to the crime as well as the perpetrators.
Muchiri further revealed that some of the suspects are members of Mjahidin, a criminally organised gang, which is responsible for robberies and Criminal activities in the Eastlands area of Nairobi.
The four are William Imoli Shighali alias Omar Shakur, Juma Ali Haikal, Douglas Muchiri Wambugu, and David Mihigo Kagame.
A postmortem conducted on the legislator’s body earlier this week revealed that he died from excessive bleeding occasion by injury to his vital organs.
Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Odour, who led the autopsy, in the presence of the family lawyers at the Lee Funeral Home, stated that the bullets tore through Were’s vital organs, including the liver, heart, lungs, and aorta.
Oduor noted that the 51-year-old MP had five gunshot wounds, including two entry wounds on the left forearm, two on the left side of the chest, and one that lodged in the spine.
The late Kasipul lawmaker died last week shortly after leaving town at the Kenyatta Hospital roundabout near the Nairobi Funeral Home along Ngong Road, where he was shot by assassins using a motorcycle before fleeing using the same.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Nairobi Hospital, where he was rushed after the attack.
