Two arrested for looting businesses in Nanyuki during recent protests

Two suspects have been arrested for taking part in looting of shops in Nanyuki, Laikipia County, during the recent protests and the stolen items recovered.

In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) said the suspects were arrested after a search operation was conducted in Majengo village in Laikipia East Sub-County.

The operation, which was led by Nanyuki Officer Commanding Station (OCS) was in charge of the operation,  was conducted in areas where the police believed the stolen goods were being hidden.

“Police officers from Nanyuki Police Station, led by the Officer Commanding the Station (OCS), conducted a search operation on 29 July 2025 in Majengo Village, Laikipia East Sub-County, Laikipia County, resulting in the arrest of two suspects,” NPS said in the statement.

It added that the suspects were found with a wide range of goods believed to have been stolen from various businesses during the protests.

“Among the items recovered were twenty single shoes of different sizes, believed to have been taken from a Bata shop, seven packs of hair braids, suspected to be from Bestlady Cosmetics, six pairs of socks, seven bulb holders, one sealing tape branded ‘Bestlady Cosmetics Ltd’, two pieces of sewing thread and two computer power cables,” NPS added.

The police also recovered medical and electronic equipment suspected to have been taken from a local chemist that was vandalized during the unrest.

“Furthermore, the officers recovered one modified pressure machine, approximately 350 pieces of NSP kits, suspected to have been looted from Life Care Chemist, which was vandalized during the protests, and assorted wheel spanners,” the statement added.

The two are being held at the Nanyuki police station before being presented in court tomorrow.

The seized items have been secured at Nanyuki Police Station and will be used as evidence in the case.
