Tuju says Azimio has enough evidence to help Supreme court nullify Ruto’s win
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Executive Director Raphael Tuju says it has gathered water-tight evidence against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) that will help the Supreme Court of Kenya nullify the presidential polls announced by Wafula Chebukati.
According to Tuju the evidence ranges from printing of ballot papers, voting, tallying, technology, and announcing the results by the IEBC chairman.
Chebukati has since declared Deputy President William Ruto and gazette his name and that of Rigathi Gachagua to be the next President-elect and Deputy President-elect respectively.
“We have water-tight evidence compared to that we had in 2017, and we trust that the Supreme court will overturn the results that saw William Ruto declared the winner of the presidential elections,” Tuju said.
In an interview with a local radio station, Tuju said the reason behind Azimio not moving to the courts yet is because the legal team is busy working on the evidence to make sure nothing is left behind when they deliver the final report.
“We shall move to court this weekend to seek legal redress, for we know the IEBC oversaw the polls in a skewed manner. Our prayer was to go for a re-run, but the IEBC chose to opt for irregularities that saw Chebukati declare Ruto as the President-elect,” Tuju said.
The Cabinet Secretary without portfolio was optimistic that the Supreme Court bench would rule in their favour adding that the four IEBC commissioners that distanced themselves from the results announced by their boss had evidence that would boost their case.
Sentiments by Tuju come in the wake of disputed elections by her party leader Raila Odinga and the defections of some of Azimio affiliated leaders to the Kenya Kwanza bandwagon led by Ruto.
Raila and his running mate Martha Karua have since reiterated they will seek legal justice while at the same time urging their supporters to remain calm and wait for the outcome of the Supreme Court.
