Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) South Gem ward candidate Nick Wanga has died.
He died today at around 6 am at the Agha Khan hospital in Kisumu.
The family’s spokesperson, Abala Wanga, the manager of Kisumu City, reportedly confirmed that his younger brother passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital where he had been admitted three days earlier.
“It is a sad day for us as a family to lose a young man who had a bright future ahead of him. He was fine, he was part of the team that met Jalang’o Midiwo at his home to discuss the way forward for the Gem constituency politics,” he said.
According to his brother, the politician, age 40, passed away from cerebral malaria. The late Wanga met with his campaign secretariat on Sunday to set out ideas for winning the South Gem ward seat.
“The body is lying at the Agha Khan Hospital as we begin meetings to plan for the burial,” he said.
However, it is anticipated that ODM will choose a different candidate to run on its ticket in Wanga’s place after his passing.
The party’s representatives at the national, county, and constituency offices were not immediately available for comment.
He was remembered as a visionary leader who sacrificed a lot to see his people succeed by his family and friends.
Jalang’o Midiwo, one of the Gem leaders who offered condolence messages, said the people of South Gem had lost a committed and devoted leader.
