Sonko promises to support local talents if elected governor

The Jubilee Nairobi governor’s aspirant Mike Sonko today
pledged to incorporate artists in his government if elected on August
8.

Sonko lamented the failure by the Nairobi County Government for
failing to tap and support local talents majorly possessed by majority
of the unemployed youths.

Through his running mate Polycarp Igathe, Sonko promised to stop
intellectual property if elected.

Speaking at Kamp-prisk offices after handing over the Sh150000 Licence
fee that is required by Kenya Association of Music Producers (KAMP)
and Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK), Igathe urged them to
work as a team.

The organization Chief Executive Officer Angela Ndambuki urged other
aspirants to follow suit.

”We hope all the other candidates who use music for campaigns to pay
up so that the artists get their royalties,” she said.

The Governors are required to pay up Sh. 150,000, the senators Sh.
100,000 and Members of Parliament Sh. 50,000. Below is the
associations’ notice of the same.

The two Collective Management Organisations have said that this will
ensure that producers, musicians and actors are correctly remunerated.

The have also urged all music producers, musicians and artistes in
general to provide a conducive environment for businesses to thrive
and people to share lifelong experiences.

“Their labour is as valid as that of any employee and commercial use
of their works must be paid for,” she added.

Sonko-Igathe candidature is seeking to ouster Nairobi Governor Evans
Kidero from office in what is expected to be a tight race.

Other candidates who have expressed intention to seek Nairobi’s top
post as independent candidates are Peter Kenneth and Miguna Miguna.
