Some 843 families evicted from Itare dam site now cry for help

The 843 families said to be within the Itare Dam at Kuresoi North and Kuresoi South Constituencies are now camping at the edges of the site after Rift Valley Water Services Board evicted them one week ago.

David Koech one of the villagers said the Water Board betrayed them after they agreed on modalities to settle them outside the dam in an exercise that would cost the tax payer Sh36billion.

Mr Koech said the Rift Valley Water Service Board promised to pay them before but last week bulldozers from the Italian Firm pulled down their houses without any notice. The locals said the only payment they have received is Sh20,000 for maize and crops destroyed by the firm to pave way for the construction of the Dam.

The familes are now in four camps and ask the government through the office of the President to intervene.
