Six rescued as boat capsizes off Lamu, toddler drowns in Migori
Meanwhile, police in Migori County are investigating the death of a two-year-old girl who drowned after falling into an open well while playing with her five-year-old sister.
Six crew members have been rescued while four others remain missing after a boat capsized in deep-sea waters off Lamu County in an incident that has triggered a search operation.
The MV Shukrani capsized at around 10pm on Wednesday, September 23, at Mwambasani Bay near Kizingitini in Lamu East.
Police said 10 people were reportedly on board the vessel, which had departed from Lamu and was headed to Somalia carrying foodstuffs.
Fishermen operating in the area responded after the boat overturned and managed to rescue six crew members.
The survivors were taken to Kiwayu Dispensary, where they were examined and found to be in stable condition. They were later taken to Kiwayu Police Post to assist investigators establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Four crew members remain unaccounted for as the search continues.

The incident occurred at around 5pm on Thursday, September 24, in the Stadium area of Kuria West.
The children had reportedly gone to a neighbour’s compound to play while their mother was at work at a mining site.
Police said the younger girl, identified as Rael, fell into the open well. Her five-year-old sister raised the alarm, prompting neighbours to retrieve the child and rush her to Kehancha Sub-County Hospital.
However, Rael was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.
Officers from Kehancha Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Kuria West, visited the scene and commenced investigations.
The child’s body was moved to the Kehancha Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
