Shimo la Tewa Prison register highest number of inmates as voters

Shimo la Tewa G.K Prison  registered the highest number of inmates voters during the exercise that came to an end on Monday.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Northern coast Region coordinator Amina Sudi Abadalla said the facility had recorded a number of 277 inmates  voters, followed closely by Manyani at 115, Malindi 103, Kwale 40,  Kingorani 24, and Kilifi prison at 20.

She said prison in both the Northern and Southern Regions had registered a total number of 621 voters.

Abdalla said Hindi, Hola and Kaloleni prisons  had recorded the lowest numbers with only 13 inmates having been recorded as voters from the three prisons.

 Abdalla additionally said that thou it was the first time the, Electoral and Boundaries Commission had extended the voter registration exercise for the first time in the prisons IEBC expectations were not meet, since there was a low turnout of inmates.

“A few came out to be registered as voters considering the huge numbers of inmates being held in various prisons in the entire of coast region “she said.
