Nairobi Women Representative Rachel Shebesh has refuted claims that she will not be vying again for the city woman representative seat in this year’s elections.
Speaking yesterday at the Kasarani Stadium where she issued Sh 43 million to women groups, Shebesh dismissed the allegations as “propaganda from opponents who have seen me silent over the years” and announced that she will defend her seat and expressed confidence that she will win.
She instead said at the press briefing that she has changed her tact of working in Nairobi after she had talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta about coming up with a line up in Nairobi that would oust Governor Evans Kidero.
“Who said I am not vying? These rumours have been fuelled by my silence which however was a way of loyalty to my president. Jubilee has an eye on the Nairobi governor’s seat and I was the first person to offer my seat to mobilize this and that is why I was silently doing my projects,” noted Shebesh.
However, Shebesh said that she is now focused on winning the nominations citing that the President’s plans failed after some members turned away from the “line up” set up to clinch the top seat in Nairobi.
Citing that she expects a free and fair nomination process, Shebesh said that she is “over prepared for the nominations”.
“The competition in Jubilee for Nairobi shows you that Nairobi is Jubilee because in CORD people are being given direct tickets, meaning there is not excitement and competition. I respect my competitors but they have a tough journey ahead in bagging their votes for this position,” said Shebesh.
