Sakaja challenge Kinoti to arrest him over degree certificate saga
United Democratic Alliance’s Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Johnson Sakaja has challenged Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti to apprehend him over degree forgery.
Sakaja claims that he is unconcerned about the continuing investigation into the authenticity of his degree qualifications.
Through a statement on his Facebook page, the Nairobi Senator maintained that the state’s threats and intimidation will not dissuade him from running for the high-stakes Nairobi governorship.
“Threats of arrest and persecution by the state will not intimidate us or change the will of the people of Nairobi. Our resolve remains firm. Bwana DCI Kinoti, I’m at my Riverside office, karibu, or let me know if you’d like me to come over,” Sakaja said.
The candidate endorsed by the UDA insisted that his credentials are valid, alleging that the institutions tasked with deciding on his credentials had refused to cooperate in what he called a political witch-hunt.
“Your office will not install a project on the people of Nairobi. My qualifications are legit, and the relevant institutions have refused to play along with your games. Let the people decide,” Sakaja stated.
This comes after DCI revealed that the agency had launched an investigation into the legitimacy of Sakaja’s degree certificate.
Kinoti’s comments came just hours after the investigating agency tied Sakaja to an international criminal syndicate over the degree saga, which is now threatening to derail the ‘Super Senator’s ambitions to become Nairobi’s governor.
The University of Nairobi stoked further controversy by indicating on its website that the Senator had graduated only to later delete his entry on its “Notable Alumni” page.
The university also embedded Sakaja’s photo in the post.
The senator was also a Bachelor of Actuarial Science student at the University of Nairobi but it’s not clear whether he completed the course. He joined the university in 2003.
The revocation comes barely a day after a lobby group wrote to the Ugandan Minister for Education, Janet Museveni, to compel Team University to produce Sakaja’s admission letter, details of payment of school fees, and evidence that he attended classes.
Sakaja alleges that he graduated in October 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Management Degree from Kampala-based university, Team.
