President Ruto ordered my son’s release, CS Justin Muturi now reveals

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has recorded a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following the remarks he made claiming that his son was abducted by police of the government he serves.

In his statement, he indicated that it was on June 22, 2024 when his son Leslie Muturi was abducted by armed hooded gangsters who he believed were police officers.
After being informed the incident, he tried to call the senior security bosses who never responded to his call before turning to write messages to the president which went an answered too.
He indicates that his son was released after approaching President William Ruto in person. The president then called the Director General of the National Intelligence Service Noordin Haji who admitted Leslie was in custody and ordered his release.
He was released an hour after the president’s call.
Muturi, who recorded a statement at Kilimani police station, has been under the spotlight after he took a swipe at the government and called for the establishment of a commission of inquiry to unearth a series of abductions that have been going on in the past in Kenya targeting online government critics.

While condemning the abductions, the CS said the rising cases of abductions, especially of the Kenyan youngsters, which has been characterised by unlawful detention and torture by unknown people suspected to be security personnel, need to stop.

Speaking during a press briefing held at Serena Hotel, Nairobi today, the CS said his son was abducted, held incommunicado for days, tortured, and released without being presented to court. He says he has been trying to seek answers from the government in vain.
