Romance at City Hall? Officials accused of turning offices into love nests

The grapevine at City Hall is working overtime and, if the whispers making the rounds are anything to go by, so are some of its offices. Long after the official 5pm closing time, lights are reportedly left glowing in several corridors, with puzzled staff wondering what keeps a handful of occupants at their desks until 10pm and beyond.

According to the rumour mill, a few love-struck and philandering officials who are seemingly unable to keep their passions in check have allegedly transformed government offices into private hideaways once the day’s work is done. Instead of heading home after clocking out, they are said to remain behind, locking themselves in offices for what colleagues jokingly describe as “extended meetings” of a very different kind.

Some are said to have even claimed overtime for ‘extra work’ beyond the normal working hours in the guise of handling official tasks.

Their colleagues are said to be the main source of the corridor chatter. They claim some offices mysteriously develop unpleasant odours by morning, while lavatories are allegedly left clogged, prompting speculation that late-night escapades rather than official business are to blame.

Some cleaners reportedly complain of discovering used protection items and other tell-tale signs that have fuelled the already colourful gossip.

Security officers are also said to have noticed that a small group of officials routinely leave the premises well after 10pm, raising eyebrows among colleagues who wonder why government offices remain occupied long after working hours have ended.
