Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga has called out residents of Bungoma County for letting him down with only two weeks to the August 9, 2022 General Election.
Raila who was speaking at a rally in Kimilili town noted that the residents were apparently supporting his political nemesis Deputy President William Ruto ahead of the August polls.
“An opinion poll carried out last week shows Raila is trailing Ruto in Bungoma. He (Ruto) is at nearly 60 per cent and Raila is at 40 per cent. Shame on you people! Shame on you people! Shame on you,” he said.
Raila’s remarks come as opinion pollsters have found themselves in the eye of the storm over the accuracy of their findings.
InfoTrak and Tifa Research, two leading pollsters, have given Raila a national average lead over Ruto.
“I look at the forces of liberation in this community: I think of Masinde Muliro; I think of Kijana Wamalwa; I think of Elijah Masinde, and asked myself are these people even Bukusus? I thought Bukusus are made of a different material?”
In an earlier campaign rally, COTU-Kenya secretary general Francis Atwoli named the leaders from Western Kenya who have in the past held plum positions in government when Raila was Prime Minister.
Bungoma has seen Ruto- the United Democratic Alliance flagbearer- make several inroad’s courtesy of the ANC party and Ford Kenya whose key members are Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Cleophas Malala (ANC), Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya), Ken Lusaka (Ford Kenya) Bony Khalwale (former Kakamega Senator) and Didmus Barasa, the incumbent Kimilili legislator.
