Police in Kirinyaga have arrested six suspects over the gruesome murder of Kirinyaga University student Collins Kipchumba Kimetto last month.
Kirinyaga County Commissioner Moses Ivuto says the arrests come after investigations that commenced soon after the crime.
Two of the suspects were nabbed in Murang’a County and the rest in Mwea, Kirinyaga.
Ivuto thanked members of the public who volunteered information that led to arrests. He however declined to reveal the identities of the six suspects, saying it may jeopardise ongoing efforts to net their accomplices.
The County Commissioner added that security has been beefed up in the area.
The Bachelor of Science student was murdered in cold blood as he was back at the university hostels after a night out.
The killing saw the student go on a rampage in protest with several cars torched and property worth thousands of shillings destroyed.
The suspects will be arraigned in court on Monday.
