Raila, Ruto hide and seek game in naming running mate
Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga and Kenya Kwanza flagbearer Deputy President William Ruto have had Kenyans waiting in anticipation in picking their running mates ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.
The DP was due to make the news yesterday at his official Karen residence, putting an end to months of speculation about Ruto’s running mate selection.
According to rumours, the list of potential running mates has been whittled down to two: Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki and Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua.
Odinga is expected to name his running mate during a rally at the Kamukunji grounds in Nairobi today.
According to sources, on Friday Odinga received three names from a panel of distinguished individuals, including Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, and Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua.
Governors Charity Ngilu (Kitui), Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru), and Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega) were all interviewed for the job of running mate.
Sabina Chege, a Murang’a Woman Representative, Peter Munya, the Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, and Stephen Tarus, were also among the people interviewed.
According to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, presidential candidates have up to tomorrow midnight to submit their names and their running mates for clearance.
