President Ruto weigh loyalty, political capital in nominating 50 CASs
President William Ruto seems to have weighed loyalty and political capital of the fifty nominees to the posts of Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs) as communicated earlier today by the Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service Felix Koskei.
Among the nominees include Journalist Dennis Itumbi who has been nominated CAS in the Ministry of Information, Communications and Digital Economy alongside Simon Mwangi Kamau.
The president has made the nominations pursuant to Article 132(4) of the constitution following the recommendation of the Public Service Commission (PSC).
The nominations are however subject to parliamentary approval.
“It is notified that his excellency Hon. William samoei ruto, PhD, CGH, following the recommendation of the Public Service Commission has today, March 16, 2023, nominated various persons as Chief Administrative Secretaries. The Presidential Action is pursuant to Article 132(4)(a) of the Constitution.” Koskei said.
Former Siaya County gubernatorial aspirant Nicholas Gumbo has been nominated CAS in the Ministry of Roads and Transport.
If approved, Gumbo, will serve alongside former Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Benjamin Washialo if their nomination is approved.
“By dint of the executive action, the nominations have been transmitted to the National Assembly for consideration and approval by Parliament in accordance with the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act (No. 33 of 2011.” Koskei added.
Former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero who unsuccessfully vied for Homa Bay gubernatorial position in the August 9 polls has been nominated CAS in the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry.
Once approved, he will serve alongside Vincent Kemosi Mogaka and Lilian Cheptoo Tomitom if their nomination is approved.
Kidero and Gumbo were among a number of politicians drawn from Luo Nyanza who recently announced that they have officially joined UDA party.
Former Nairobi Senatorial aspirant Bishop Margaret Wanjiru has been nominated CAS in the Ministry of Co-operatives & Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development. She will serve alongside Amos Chege Mugo if their nomination is given the greenlight by parliament.
Former Narok governor Samuel Tunai who also unsuccessfully vied for the County Senate position has been nominated CAS in the Ministry of Interior and National Administration.
He will serve alongside Millicent Omanga who unsuccessfully vied for the Nairobi Woman Representative seat and Amb. Mohamud Ali Saleh if their nomination is equally approved.
Former Kisii Deputy governor Joash Maangi has been nominated CAS in the Ministry of Foreign & Diaspora Affairs alongside the flamboyant former Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru.
Former Bahati MP Onesmus Ngunjri and former Machakos Town MP Vincent Munyaka have been nominated CAS in the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing & Urban Development.
Former Sabatia MP Alfred Agoi has been nominated CAS in the Ministry of Defence while former Nominated MP Wilson Sossion has been nominated CAS in the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife & Heritage alongside Rehema Dida Jaldesa.
Former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa who unsuccessfully vied for Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat but lost to DAP-K party candidate George Natembeya has been nominated CAS in the Ministry of Water, Sanitation & Irrigation alongside Sanya Orre.
On the other hand, former Chereng’any MP Wesley Korir has landed the CAS position in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, The Arts & Sports alongside former Starehe MP Charles Njagua Kanyi alias Jaguar.
Ann Wanjiku Mwangi, Nicholas Ngabiya Rioba and Edwin Sudi Wandabusi have all been nominated CASs in the Office of the Deputy President while Sharif Athman Ali, former Nominated MP Isaac Mwaura and Rehema Hassan have been nominated CASs in the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.
Allan Kosgey who unsuccessfully contested for Nandi Gubernatorial position has been nominated CAS in The State Law Office.
