Police launch multi-agency security operation in Turkana East after banditry attack
The National Police Service has launched a multi-agency security operation in Turkana East Sub County following the banditry attack that saw the killings of eight security officers, two civilians and a local chief at Kakitei village.
Through a statement by the NPS, the main aim of the security operation is to arrest the perpetrators, recover the stolen animals and firearms and return normalcy in the area.
“Such acts of criminality and impunity shall not be tolerated and must be brought to an end at all cost. As such, bandits terrorising innocent people have been on notice,” read the statement.
NPS further appealed to the public to keep calm and cooperate with the police in order for security to be brought back in the area.
“NPS appeals to the public to cooperate with this noble effort to return security to the area by volunteering information that may lead to the arrest of the criminals and recovery of stolen animals,” the statement further stated.
Upon receiving a comprehensive report on the killings, President William Ruto addressed on the incident assuring the public that the matter will be dealt with seriously.
“I have instructed security agencies to deal firmly, decisively and conclusively with those involved. Cattle rustling will stop,” he said.
