Parties Registrar denounce use of ‘Kenya Kwisha’ and ‘kuzimia’ terms
The Registrar of Political Parties (RPP) has denounced the use of ‘Kenya Kwisha’ and ‘Kuzimia’ in reference to the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio-One Kenya coalitions, respectively.
Speaking at a Nairobi hotel, Ann Nderitu, where she started a peace caravan, stated that the exchange of names could lead to electoral violence and is also humiliating to party members.
“From the perspective of the registrar, we do not want to hear individuals referring to each other as Kenya Kwisha or Kuzimia; we want to denounce it because it is humiliating.” Those slips of the tongue should cease, because I don’t believe we want to refer to Kenya as Kenya Kwisha or Azimio as Kuzimia. “I don’t think you make mistakes with your names,” Nderitu replied.
She challenged all political actors and Kenyans in general to prioritize peace in the country, stating that Kenya will still exist after the election, regardless of who wins on August 9.
“We need to remain as one Nation and that is where we start, different opinion one Nation, One Nation different opinion. We are one. Competition will come and it will go, and we are committed as a fraternity of dialogue to discuss peace,” she said.
Kenya Kwanza Alliance supporters frequently refer to their opponents in the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition led by Raila Odinga as Kuzima, while Azimio supporters refer to their opponents as Kenya Kwisha.
Kenya is preparing to host a general election, with the two leaders (Ruto and Raila) positioned as the frontrunners in the succession contest.
