Outrage as drunken Murang’a administrators attack bar patrons and workers

Two drunken senior administrators in Murang’a county attacked patrons and workers in a pub in Murang’a town, sparking outrage.

The two Assistant County Commissioners, Esther Muthoni (Kiharu Sub County) and her unnamed male colleague descended on Oceanic Hotel and Restaurant around 5am on Saturday, March 22, 2025 morning and started harassing everyone around.

Two people, a worker at the pub and a female patron were mercilessly assaulted by the two administrators. They sustained serious injuries and were admitted at the Murang’a level 5 hospital.

One of the injured persons is Kelvin Mungai, the pub manager whom the male administrator hit several times in the head, knocking him down.

The owner of the establishment James Waweru, a former civic leader in the area, said Kelvin who is his son sustained injuries on the head, back, legs and hands.

“The two ACCs who were very drunk came to the premises early on Saturday morning after a drinking spree elsewhere and started harassing everyone without any provocation. They also appeared to be targeting my son,” said Waweru when reached on phone for comment.

He said his son and the other female patron assaulted by the two were admitted in the local hospital, but have since been discharged after being treated.

In a CC-TV clip, one of the administrators is heard ordering the manager to reduce the TV volume while the other suggested they should have all the drinks in the pub carted away.

“Wewe ndio mang’aa hapa (you are the hot-headed one here), sit down! You are the manager and you can’t control the TV volume? You are very proud,” the administrator says after knocking Kelvin down on the floor.

“We as Kenyans are angry at government officials who think they are above the law. We are calling for an immediate action to be taken failure to which we shall mobilize all the human rights bodies to take up the matter,” said an enraged TikToker.
