On his way out? Muturi’s absence at Cabinet meeting sparks buzz on social media

The latest development comes a week after the CS boldly accused the National Intelligence Services Director General Noordin Haji of allegedly orchestrating his son’s abduction

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi conspicuously missed a Cabinet meeting held at the Kakamega State Lodge yesterday.

Muturi, who confirmed missing the meeting chaired by president William Ruto, did not give his reasons for his absence.

His absence, however, raised eyebrows as all the Cabinet members of the Kenya Kwanza government were present.

Reports indicate that the former Attorney General was not invited to the meeting fueling speculations of a possible fallout between him and President Ruto over his recent stand on abduction of youths.

His absence also sparks questions about whether Ruto could be considering dismissing him barely three months after he was appointed to the position.

The latest development comes a week after the CS boldly accused the National Intelligence Services Director General Noordin Haji of allegedly orchestrating his son’s abduction.

A section of Kenyans claim Muturi’s bold criticism of Ruto’s government could have been politically motivated while others say his sentiments were due to frustration with the current regime.

Muturi is accused by a section of the Kenya Kwanza politicians of having broken protocol when he called for a national dialogue regarding the alleged abduction of young Kenyans and accused the government of having a hand in it.

Several legislators have called for his resignation before he is sacked even though the head of state has remained numb about it.

“Unfortunately, Kenyans are being abducted, yet there is no action from the police, who have denied any involvement in the abductions,” he said previously.

The remarks by the CS sparked public debate and prompted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to invite him to record a statement regarding his son to help facilitate ongoing investigations.

In his statement, which he recorded at the Kilimani police station in Nairobi, Muturi said it took the intervention of President Ruto to have his son, Leslie, released after three days of anxiety and fruitless attempts to have senior government officers facilitate the release of his son, who he said a friend at the NIS to him was being held by them.

Muturi said he requested the president to speak directly to NIS boss Noordin Haji, which he did.

“Standing outside the pavilion, I heard the President ask Noordin Haji if he was holding my son, Noordin confirmed, that indeed he was holding my son and the President instructed him to release Leslie immediately. Noordin responded that Leslie would be released within an hour,” Muturi said in his statement.
