Ukraine is currently fighting to regain control of the territories captured by the Russian forces in a full blown war that began last year after Russia invaded Ukraine.

The international community has maintained a soft approach in resolving the conflict with the United Nations seemingly handicapped in exploiting good offices to resolve the conflict.

Russia is this month assuming the leadership and presidency of the United Security Council (UNSC), one of the six UN principal organs and charged with maintaining international peace and security.
