Nyamira MCAs chase CECs from office in extended wrangles with Governor Nyaribo

The legislators are said to have taken the drastic action following weeks of wrangles between the governor

Offices belonging to three County Executive Committee (CEC) members in Nyamira County were forcefully locked after Members of the County Assembly went there to kick them out.

The legislators are said to have taken the drastic action of chasing the CECs following weeks of wrangles between them and the office of Governor Amos Nyaribo.

The three CECs are those for the environment, sports, and education who had offices at the County Assembly.

“This building belongs to the Nyamira County Assembly and, because of the lack of offices, they were being used by the county executive. The offices were supposed to host MCAs and departments. So the chairpersons and their departments do not have a space to hold meetings. They were tenants, and we have decided to chase them away because we had issued them a warning, but they seemed reluctant,” Kiabonyora MCA Vincent Benecha stated.

According to residents of the county, senator Okong’o Omogeni should have helped in solving the wrangles between the assembly and the County Executive.

“The County Senator Okong’o Omogeni is supposed to intervene when there are issues and help solve them. He is nowhere to be seen six months since the wrangles begun,” Jeremiah Migosi, a resident of Nyamira County, lamented.

Migos noted that workers in the county assembly are yet to receive their salaries, faulting the governor for convening with the recently ousted county speaker to frustrate the MCAs.

“MCAs and the staff of the Assembly are yet to receive their salaries for six months now. This is because the speaker who was removed from office is working with the governor to ensure the money is not disbursed,” he added.

After unsuccessfully trying to impeach their governor, Nyamira MCAs resolved to impeach the Assembly Speaker, Enock Okero, accusing him of gross misconduct.

Okero was ousted following months of county assembly leadership rows, with 24 MCAs supporting the impeachment motion and 11 abstaining.

A month earlier, the county governor had survived an impeachment motion after 22 MCAs voted for his removal and 12 voted to save him.

He narrowly escaped the ouster in a second attempt, as the 22 MCAs did not reach the 23 threshold required to impeach him.
