Number of police deaths in Turkana bandit attack rises to 4
The recovery of one more General Service Unit (GSU) officer who was found dead following the Friday attack on police by suspected bandits in Turkana county has risen the number of total deaths to four.
A total of seven GSU officers were injured in the Friday attack whereas 4 police vehicles were set on fire, as well as firearms and uniforms belonging to the slain officers stolen.
Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai condemned the attacks saying that insecurity in the area has deteriorated to unacceptable levels and that cases of attacks on police officers have become too frequent.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki held a meeting with senior security commanders from Turkana and Baringo counties during his latest tour of the volatile region in an effort to find a lasting solution to perennial banditry attacks in parts of the region.
Kindiki met with a team of senior security chiefs from the Rift Valley region last Tuesday to plan how to deal with the threat that has wreaked havoc and caused untold suffering among the region’s residents.
