Nominated CSs to know their fate next Thursday

Three politicians tapped by President William Ruto to join his broad-based Cabinet will know their fate next Thursday when they National Assembly is set to hold a special sitting.

In changes announced last month, President Ruto nominated former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo as the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications Technology and the Digital Economy, former Health CS Mutahi Kagwe (Agriculture and Livestock Development) and former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui as CS for Investment, Trade and Industry.

The House will also consider a report on nominees for various diplomatic roles. They are former CSs Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u and Andrew Karanja, who, if approved, will take up new roles as High Commissioner to Accra and Ambassador to Brazil respectively.

Others are former Sports CS Ababu Namwamba (Permanent Representative to the UNEP office in Nairobi), and former Deputy Inspector General of Police Noor Gabow (Consul-General to Port-au-Prince).

A notice by Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula indicated that the special sitting was granted after a request by the Majority and Minority Leaders, Kimani Ichungwah and Junet Mohammed.

During the sitting, the MPs will also consider a report on County Governments Additional Allocations Bill (Senate Bill No. 19 of 2024) subject to the conclusion of the mediation process.

Also to be tabled is the report from the Departmental Committee on Labour on its consideration of nominees for appointment as Vice Chairperson and members of the Public Service Commission (PSC).

The lawmakers will also consider priority Bills, among them, the Startup Bill (Senate Bill No. 14 of 2022) and the Persons with Disabilities Bill (Senate Bill No. 7 of 2023).
