Nairobi man found carrying wife’s body parts in sack to remain in police custody for three weeks
Investigating officer tells court John Wambua was stopped by officers who conducted a search and found human body parts (thorax part) stashed in a nylon cement carrier.

A man who was allegedly found carrying his wife’s body parts in a cement bag in Huruma estate in Nairobi will remain in custody for 21 days.
Milimani Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe issued the directive after the investigating officer, Corporal Kassim Yakub, sought to have John Kyama Wambua detained at Ruaraka Police Station, to allow for the police to conclude their investigations before preferring charges against him
Yakub, who is attached at the Starehe Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices, told the magistrate that the suspect was arrested yesterday, Tuesday 22, 2024 by officers from Huruma Police Station, who spotted him carrying a bag on his back looking suspicious.
The officers are said to have conducted a search and found human body parts (thorax part) stashed in a nylon cement carrier.
Upon interrogation, Wambua is said to have led the officers in his house where some other parts of the body were recovered and he confessed the parts belong to his wife, Joy Fridah Munani. He was arrested and booked at Huruma Police Station.
The officers with the help of colleagues from Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau at the DIC headquarters did site analysis and recovered one murder weapon.
“I pray this honourable court to grant me with an order to detain the respondent at Ruaraka Police Station for 21 days to enable me conclusively investigate the matter,” he told the magistrate.
State prosecutor Judy Koech also urged the court not to release Wambua on bond since the matter is in public domain and for the purpose of his security be detained in custody,
“Your owner considering the grievous nature of the matter and it is in public domain, I pray the respondent to be detained in custody for his own security,” she submitted.
The respondent who was not represented by a lawyer did not oppose his detention for 21 days,
“I am not opposing the prayers for my detention,” he responded.
In his brief ruling, the magistrate put on notice that the respondent did not oppose the prayers for his detention,
“Considering the respondent did not oppose his detention, and also the nature of the offence this court has granted the prayers sought by Corporal Kassim Yakub to detain the suspect for 21 days,” Shikwe said.
He directed that suspect be held in custody until February 17, 2025.
