There is growing unease in certain quarters of Nairobi County’ City Hall offices following a court challenge over the legality of tendering process of the ongoing cabro paving, walkway installation and related public works in the Central Business District running into hundreds of millions.
Word doing the rounds at City Hall is that an operative and aide to a senior county official are increasingly uncomfortable over the case, particularly the possibility that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) could demand to scrutinise procurement, tendering and advertisement records linked to the projects.
The aide is alleged by insiders to have played a central role in pushing through the procurement of the walkway and cabro works, with claims that county procurement officials were pressured and prospective contractors subjected to demands for payments in an elaborate extortion scheme.
