Feeding program launched to help vulnerable families affected by Covid in Nairobi

Nairobi County has launched a Disaster Management Feeding Program to help the most vulnerable families that have been affected by Covid-19 pandemic.

This is a way to alleviate effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic which was caused by the lockdown of the five counties exposing the vulnerable families to food insecurity and other challenges.

Speaking when she launched the program at Mama Lucy Kibaki hospital, acting Nairobi County Governor Ann Kananu Mwenda said they have set up an internal technical team within the Disaster Management Department tasked with carrying out an elaborate mapping of the most vulnerable within the 17 sub-counties.

“We have however picked about 25,500 households most desperately in need of food assistance for the next three months. This population includes the most vulnerable, Women, People Living with Disability, those living with HIV and other chronic diseases,” she said.

County Chief Officer Disaster Management Mohammed Sahal said the county intends to work with area Members of County Assembly who will go door to door to donate the foodstuff to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.

Over 127,500 vulnerable households in need of support have been identified and about 25,500 households of most desperate will receive food aid and other household items for the next three months from April to June 2021.

The vulnerable population includes Women, People Living with Disability, those living with HIV and other chronic diseases.
People present were Chief Officer Disaster Management Mohamed Sahal his deputy Brian Kisali and County Executive Committee Member Winfred Gathagu the program will run in all the 17 sub-counties.
