Mukangula instrumental for AFC as they down Police in style

New AFC Leopards captain Eugene Mukangula was instrumental for Ingwe as they bounced back to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Police FC at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Mukangula was on target alongside Victor Omune and John Makwata for the Patrick Aussemes side who are now unbeaten in nine league matches with the result moving them into 10th place on the standings on 31 points.
Leopards dominated the servicemen straight from the start and were rewarded in the 14th minute when Omune opened the scoring following some neat interchange between Cliff Nyakeya and Lewis Bandi.
Omune was a thorn in the flesh of Police Defence and a second goal was just a matter of time for him as he sliced through Police to score a superb goal.
The Patrick Aussems’ charges pressed for the second with the goal coming just five minutes before halftime through Mukangula with Omune turning provider.
Police should have pulled one back on the stroke of halftime but goalkeeper Levis Opiyo did well to save from Clifford Miheso’s dangerous free-kick.
In the second half, Leopards returned from where they left with Makwatta nearly getting the third only to flick his headed effort into the upright.
He would not be denied with the second time of asking as he found the net with a sumptuous overhead kick beyond goalkeeper Job Ochieng.
Leopards went on to secure the three points with Mukangula with his first win after being handed the armband to lead the team.
Mukangula’s recent form, supreme reading of the game and agility to defend regularly, has marked him as one of the key players Ingwe coach will count on to steer the country to greater heights.
At the onset of the campaign, Mukangula struggled to nail down a regular starting slot in the team, but this has improved lately, and he believes the criticism levelled against him during the rough patch helped him bounce back stronger.
