Electricity costs is set to rise again after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) increased the foreign exchange adjustment components of power.
In a gazette notice, the fuel charge will go up to Sh3.97 for every unit of power consumed in October compared to Sh3.88 in September.
“Notice is given that all prices for the electrical energy will be liable to a fuel energy cost charge of plus 397 Kenya cents per kWh for all meter readings to be taken October, 2021,” stated EPRA.
According to the authority, the power consumed over the same month would be liable to a foreign exchange fluctuation adjustment of plus 103.92 cents per kWh.
The review of the two components of the power bill will rise the cost of power to over Sh5,000 a month for homes consuming 200 units.
EPRA also increased the foreign exchange fluctuation adjustment to Sh1.04 per kWh up from 76 cents in September.
The higher foreign exchange adjustment charge is on its part a reflection of weakened local currency with the shilling trading at a new Sh111 low against the dollar from September from Sh107.6 in May this year.
However, the water resource management authority levy is unchanged at a mean two cents, the same as in September.
