Minor whose skull was lodged with fork jembe dies will undergoing surgery at Kenyatta Hospital

The Kenyatta National Hospital is once again on the spot after a 2-year-old boy, who had a forked Jembe lodged on his head, died while undergoing surgery.

The parents confirmed that the minor died in the hands of surgeons more than 20 hours later after checki

Prior to the surgery the hospital indicated in a statement that conducting the surgery on the minor would be dangerous because he had lost a lot of blood hindering the clotting process.

“The patient had lost a lot of blood and as a result, the clotting process was not occurring as expected, thereby, delaying the surgical procedure as this would have been dangerous to the patient,” stated the hospital.

However, the family blamed the hospital for failing to treat the boy’s case as an emergency.

The hospital was put on blast on social media after photos of the boy and his guardian made rounds on the interwebs with the jembe still stuck on his head and seeming to be in excruciating pain.

“The patient has since been stabilized and is currently undergoing a delicate operation in KNH theatres. We thank you for your concern and we assure you that the child is under the best care by our teams,” said KNH.

The boy is said to have been playing with his siblings at their home when he was hit with the jembe.

He was rushed to Thika Level V Hospital, where medics on call administered first aid, before referring him to the Kenyatta Hospital.
