McCarthy set to be unveiled Monday as Harambee Stars Coach

Former Bafana Bafana striker Benny McCarthy has arrived in the country alongside two assistants and is set to be unveiled Monday as the new Harambee Stars tactician.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) top brass will unveil the immediate former Manchester United Football Club forwards coach at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in the afternoon.
Inside sources have also revealed that a Kenyan Assistant will also be unveiled in what will be a completely new look with eyes and focus on AFCON 2027 and CHAN 2025 competition in sight with Kenya being co-host of both events. The much awaited announcement is set to now slam shut what was a tumultuous three years under Turkish tactician Engin Firat at the helm of the men’s national team with no considerable achievement worthy of mention.
The 47-year-old McCarthy who arrived early today in the country accompanied by his backroom staff was received at the airport by FKF vice-president McDonald Mariga. He is set to hit the road running with the domestic competitions set to end in May and thereafter camp is called for the continental nations trophy slated for August in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
McCarthy who is a former FC Porto, Westham FC, Orlando Pirates FC, Celta Vigo and Ajax Amsterdam player has 31 goals for the South African national team in 79 appearances. He has previously coached Amazulu FC (2020/22) and Cape Town City FC (2017/19) in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). The Western Cape native has also had a stint as Assistant Manager of Belgian first division side SaintTruiden from 2015-2016.
Cape Town Spurs assistant coach Vasili Manousakis is expected to be McCarthy’s first assistant while former Orlando Pirates custodian Moeneeb Josephs is set to be appointed as his goalkeeper trainer. Rumours are also swirling that former Nairobi City Stars FC tactician Nicholas Muyoti could be joining the new-look technical bench.
Details of the contract of the new technical team are scanty but the new administration is set to lay down a marker with a good showing in the forthcoming CHAN event. Insiders however suggest the deal would be two years renewable dependent on performances.
McCarthy has a UEFA Pro License and experience as a head coach, assistant coach, and first-team coach.
