Man in court after nearly stabbing his 75-year-old grandma for denying him Sh50 for beer
Mwangi denied the charges while appearing before Principal Magistrate Renee Kitangwa of the Makadara law courts
A man who allegedly attempted to stab his 75 years old grandmother after she declined to give him Sh50 for alcohol is facing charges of attempting to strike contrary to section 231 (b) of the Penal Code.
David Maina Mwangi, 28, is accused of attempting to unlawfully strike Risper Dorcas Wairimu using a knife on June 15 at Kwa Reuben Slums in Makadara Sub County, Nairobi.
Mwangi denied the charges while appearing before Principal Magistrate Renee Kitangwa of the Makadara law courts.
He was released on a cash bail of Sh50, 000.
Wairimu told the police during the investigations that her grandson went to her house while drunk and demanded for Sh50 but she told her she did not have.
Mwangi then demanded for her phone which she also declined to give before the suspect became unruly and started causing havoc in the house.
The accused person allegedly kicked a jiko that had burning charcoal spreading the red hot charcoal in his grandma’s house before he allegedly grabbed a knife to stab her.
Wairimu was rescued by her neighbours who intervened but Mwangi allegedly took a spade to slay his grandmother but was retrained and reported to Reuben police station.
Police officers arrived at the house, arrested the suspect and recovered the knife and the spade.
The knife and spade recovered by the police during the arrest of the accused person are listed as exhibits in the case.
The two neighbours who rescued Wairimu are listed as witnesses in the case alongside the two police officers who arrested Mwangi.
The case will be mentioned on July 3, 2025 when the hearing dates will be fixed.
