Manhunt launched for gang who shot man, woman at Adams Arcade
Detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched a manhunt for a gang that shot two traders at Adams Arcade shopping centre on Saturday.
The suspect was caught on camera orchestrating a crime in an Mpesa shop.
According to DCI, the identified man was part of a gang that staged attack on shops along the busy Adams Arcade shopping centre.
“He is one of the thugs targeting Mpesa shops in Nairobi and its environs. The thug is part of a wider armed and dangerous gang that staged an attack at Mpesa shops located at Adams market,” stated DCI.
The Saturday incident lead to the death of 53-year-old Gathoni Maina who was an Mpesa attendant and 50-year-old Githinji Gitau who was responding to the screams from the woman.
Gathoni was shot and fell in her shop while Githinji was hit outside as he responded to screams from the woman.
Gathoni succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday, three days after the incident while Githinji died on the spot.
In a camera footage obtained by the detectives, the man could be seen buying a bottle of water from the premise.
Shortly, he distracted the Mpesa shop attendant who looked aside to get something. The man then took a phone that was lying on the counter and fled away after being confronted.
The Mpesa attendant with her colleague were then seen running after the man.
The man then followed Gathoni to her shop in a confrontation before he opened fire as the woman fought back in an attempt to stop him from getting in.
An accomplice tried to force himself into the shop but Gathoni fought back and got out where the gunman shot her at least two times.
