The examination will be administered in July 2025.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced comprehensive guidelines for the administration of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination’s new series.

The examination will be administered in July 2025.

This initiative by the government aims to provide a second chance for eligible candidates including repeaters, adult learners, and those previously unable to sit their exams, to obtain their KCSE certifications or improve their grades.

The introduction of the mid-year KCSE exam is part of the government’s broader efforts to increase access to educational opportunities while streamlining exam administration.

Registration for the July series will begin on January 27, 2025, and close on February 21, this year.

Prospective candidates must register through their respective County Directors of Education via the KNEC registration portal.

Theory and practical papers will be sat from July to mid-August 2025, while project-based assessments in subjects such as Agriculture, Art and Design, and Computer Studies will be written from January to July 2025.

The introduction of the mid-year series of KCSE examinations was announced by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba during the release of the 2024 KCSE results on January 9, 2025.
