Kinoti transferred to PSC after resigning as DCI boss
Former Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director George Kinoti has been moved to the Public Service Commission days after resigning.
The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) approved his transfer after his resignation.
“The National Police Service Commission has approved the transfer of services for George Kinoti, former Director, Directorate of Criminal Investigation, from the National Police Service Commission to Public Service Commission with remuneration and privileges personal to himself, with effect from 27th September 2022 until attainment of mandatory retirement age,” read a statement by NPSC.
George Kinoti resigned as DCI Director on Tuesday while Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai went on terminal leave as announced by President William Ruto.
In months leading up to the August general election, Kinoti had stopped speaking out, and the DCI’s most prominent means of reaching Kenyans on social media, had also slowed down.
The DCI position has already been made available for application by the National Police Service Commission (NPSC).
In January 2018 during the second term of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Kinoti was chosen to serve as DCI Director.
He left the investigation agency after four years in charge under President William Ruto’s disfavor, who accused him of turning the fight against corruption and other crimes into a political football, particularly in the months leading up to the August 9 general elections.
Ruto charged Kinoti with picking on individuals in authority who were connected to him but opposed to Azimio One Kenya Coalition leader, Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign.
