Kindiki denies dressing down CS Ruku
DP, however, affirms that governments worldwide operate on the principle of collective responsibility
Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki has termed as “a desperate, mischievous and utterly malicious twist” report that he lectured and disrespected Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku for calling for the completion of infrastructure projects in his backyard.
Describing the recently-appointed CS a a neighbour and friend for years, Kindiki said his remarks were in reference to a former CS from the same area and other ex-leaders who manifested similar conduct in the past with the intention of affirming that governments worldwide operate on the principle of collective responsibility.
“If you are in government, you are bound by government policy, decisions and actions. If you are in government and you want it to do something for the people, you use your position in the same to influence the desired action. Pretending to be “clever” by undermining a government that you are a senior part of is illegal and anti- people,” he wrote on his X account.
“It is for the opposition to oppose, criticise and correct the government. NI HAYO TU KWA SASA,” he added.
On Saturday, Ruku appeared to have irked the DP during a meeting with 5,000 elders from Embu County when he appealed to him to prioritise infrastructure improvements in Siakago, saying it was a request from the elders.
Kindiki, however, told him to stop inciting the public and instead channel his request to Cabinet.“You are now part of the Cabinet. You should not be inciting the public with complaints. Instead, you should be providing solutions within the Cabinet, which is the top decision-making organ of government,” he said.
“The President entrusted you with that flag. Respect it. It’s not just a piece of cloth,” the DP added.
However, Kindiki’s reference to a former CS from the area points to Justin Muturi, who was sacked and replaced by Ruku, for insisting that the government comes clean on extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances witnessed last year following the Gen Z protests against the Finance Bill 2024, which President William Ruto was forced to thrown out after protesters breached security and stormed Parliament.
Muturi, who said his son, Leslie, was only released after President Ruto called National Intelligence Service Director General Noordin Haji and told him to set him free, even kept off Cabinet meetings, saying he will only attend if the issue was on the agenda.
