Kilifi South MP’s PA Victor Katana Mganga charged with malicious damage to property in land row
Katana was arrested after completion of the investigations by DCI over the disputed land
Kilifi South Member of Parliament Ken Chonga’s assistant, Victor Katana Mganga, was yesterday arraigned at the Shanzu Law Courts for malicious damage to property and conspiracy to commit a felony.
A statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) indicates that Katana was arrested and charged in connection with a dispute over a three-acre parcel of land in Kilifi South, which he is believed to have grabbed from the original owner.
“In the ongoing efforts by police to deal with land fraudsters who have become the nightmare of landowners, a notorious suspect in a case of malicious damage to property and conspiracy to commit a felony, one Victor Katana Mganga, has been arraigned at Shanzu Law Courts, charged with the two counts,” the DCI said.
The DCI added that Katana was arrested after the completion of the investigations by their sleuths over the disputed land.
“Victor Katana, a Personal Assistant to a Member of Parliament in the coastal region, was arrested and charged following completion of investigations involving a disputed 3-acre parcel of land located in Kilifi South, which he is believed to have grabbed from the original owner,” they added.
The case dates back to June 2024, when the Katana is said to have destroyed a perimetre wall erected by the landowner, a land which was subdivided into three plots, an acre each.
Detectives in Kilifi South opened an inquiry and painstakingly pursued the case, and found out that Katana was culpable.
The sleuths forwarded their findings to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which also approved the charges against Katana.
While appearing before the Shanzu Chief Magistrate’s Court, Katana pleaded not guilty to the charges.
He is currently being remanded at Shimo la Tewa Prison till next Wednesday, awaiting a pre-bail report.
