Kiambu politician Gladys Chania to be charged with murder of her husband on Monday next week
Beleaguered Kiambu politician Gladys Chania will formally be charged with murder after the prosecution completed piecing together evidence to charge the accused and her co-accused, Maurice Mbugua, a causal labourer she hired a day before the murder most foul.
Kiambu Senior Resident Magistrate Wilson Radin’g directed the prosecution to arraign Chania and Mbugua on Monday before the High Court to face the murder charges.
However, the duo are still in police custody despite being granted Sh1million cash bail each and similar surety.
The Informer established that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations is yet to verify sureties presented by Chania and therefore are yet to be released from custody.
The prosecution has since wound up the process of piecing together crucial and circumstantial evidence linking the marriage counsellor to the heinous murder of her late husband George Mwangi.
Mwangi has since been buried.
Chania was Presented in court yesterday with the prosecution revealing that she will undergo a psychiatrist test on Tuesday next week at Mathari Mental facility pending her formal charging.
Mental assessment is a mandatory requirement for all suspects facing murder charges to ascertain if they are fit to stand trial.
Mwangi was laid to rest at his Mang’u home in Gatundu North. Chania did not attend the burial owing to the failure by the DCI to release her from police custody.
