Sharon Jeptarus is the latest hero in the ongoing 24th Deaflympic Games in Caxias do Sul, Brazil this is after she bagged a silver medal for Kenya in women 1500 metre.
With the additional silver medal, the Kenya team is on track to surpass its 2017 Deaflypics medal haul.
Kenya has so far accumulated ten medals in the Brazil edition with the latest being Sharon Jeptarus.
The East Africa athletics power house has so far won two gold medals courtesy of Simon Kibai in men’s 10,000m and Ian Wambui in men’s 1500m.
Kenya would go on to win four silver medals courtesy of Serah Wangari in the women’s 10,000m, mixed 4 X 4 relays run by the quartet of George Waweru, Beryl Wamira, Linett Nanjala and Isaac Atima.
Linet Nanjala (400m women), Grancy Kandagor in women’s 10,000m, Kelvin Kipkogei in men’s Javelin and David Kipkogei in men’s 10,000m were fortunate enough to bag a bronze medal for their motherland.
Anzanzi Nyondo finished sixth in the women’s triple jump while Alice Atieno came sixth in the women’s Javelin throw.
Ian Wambui yesterday managed to put up a show to win the country’s second gold medal in the men’s 1500 metres in Caxias do Sul, Brazil.
He will be back in the 5,000m men, where he will be seeking to make it medal number two whereas defending champion Simon Cherono Kibai has also set the same goal.
Kibai successfully defended his 10000m title after producing an unmatched performance at the historic Sesi Centro Esportivo Athletics track.
He led his compatriots Peter Toroitich and David Kipkogei to a 1-2-3 podium finish.
During the last edition of the Deaflympics Kenya amassed a total of 16 medals (5 Gold, 5 Silver and 6 Bronze).
Kenya has ten medals.
