Kenya set to benefit from Paris AI summit with focus on ethics

Focus on how AI impacts everyday life

Information Communication (ICT) and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo and Kenya’s special envoy for Technology Ambassador Philip Thigo will be heading Kenyan delegation during the Paris AI Action Summit 2025.

The event that will be hosted by France at the Grand Palais, on 10th and 11th February 2025, will focus on how AI impacts everyday life, predicting and shaping AI’s evolution, encouraging advancements in AI technologies, ensuring ethical and responsible usage of AI and setting worldwide regulations and policies for AI.

Various leaders including Heads of State and Government, leaders of internal organizations, chief executive officers of small and large companies, representatives of academia, non-governmental organizations, artists and members of civil societies will be in attendance at the summit.

The action week which began earlier this week, started with science and presentation of the latest known and universally recognized academic elements on artificial intelligence. Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris) hosted an international scientific conference on AI, Science and Society, on 6th and 7th February on its campus. It aimed to address the transformations brought by artificial intelligence for science and societies. By fostering an interdisciplinary dialogue, the meeting saw presentations by leading researchers, of their work.

This weekend will mostly focus on culture and artificial intelligence with various events in Paris that will be open to the public. The aim is to present works produced by artists using artificial intelligence and to address the debates sparked by the emergence of AI technologies in this sector, for example in copyright, heritage, shifts for museums, artistic potential expressed thanks to and using artificial intelligence and more

The summit will begin on Monday and will involve conferences, round tables and presentations, focused largely on solutions offered by artificial intelligence. It will enable many bilateral meetings between participants who will be gathering for the first time in such a format, with particularly diverse stakeholders, systematically exchanging views from governments, businesses, international organizations and civil society all around the world.

The Summit of Heads of State and Government will take place on Tuesday next week where a plenary session will be held at the Grand Palais with international participants to discuss some of the key actions to take on artificial intelligence.

With Kenya making significant strides in the world of artificial intelligence, it is clear that participating in the summit will drive the country an inch further in terms of innovative ideas that can help in harnessing AI for economic growth and addressing societal changes. Innovations and applications used in various sectors might also be improved for better service delivery. In addressing the challenges and seeking ways in which to better regulate AI in the country, Kenya’s participation in the summit will ensure matters like breaches and misuse of AI generated content are addressed in better ways.
