KeNHA announces closure of Bomas–Kiserian Road for two months
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of the Bomas-Kiserian road due to ongoing construction work.
A notice issued by the Highways Authority has indicated that there will be construction of two box culverts on the road section from next week, Thursday, to October 20, 2025.
The affected section runs from Brook House School near Galleria to the section near Strathmore University of Eastern Africa.
”KeNHA wishes to inform the public of a temporary traffic disruption due to the closure of Bomas – Kiserian (B19) Road between Brook House, Galleria, and to Catholic University of Eastern Africa junction from Thursday, 28th August 2025, to Monday, 20th October 2025,” KeNHA announced.
The construction is part of infrastructure improvements to enhance road safety and connectivity.
Motorists have been advised to use Langata Road-Langata South Road-Kiboko Road-Banda Lane-Magadi Road, and various connecting roads such as Langata Road-Langata South Road-Kiboko Road-Mukoma Road-Magadi Road (near Shell Petrol Station).
KeNHA has advised motorists to follow traffic diversion plans, observe project road signs, and cooperate with police and traffic marshals deployed along the route to ensure smooth traffic flow during the construction period.
Separately, yesterday in another notice, KeNHA advised motorists plying the Marigat-Loruk road of a complete closure, effective immediately.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority regrets to inform the public of the closure of Marigat – Loruk (B17) Road between Km 29+800 and Km 40+000. This is due to road flooding caused by the fast-rising water levels of Lake Baringo,” the notice stated.
The flooding has rendered this section of the road impassable, forcing the authority to close it temporarily for safety reasons.
KeNHA has cautioned road users against attempting to use the flooded section in the interest of their safety.
The authority continues to monitor the water levels and will advise when normal traffic flow can resume.
The road closure comes as the region experiences heavy rains that have caused Lake Baringo’s water levels to rise significantly, affecting transportation and economic activities in the area.
