Jubilee Party NMC approves pre-election coalition deal with ODM

President Uhuru Kenyatta led Jubilee Party National Management Committee (NMC) has granted the party Secretariat permission to formally engage Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on a pre-election coalition arrangement.

In a astatement, the party said the decision sprang from an already existing good collaboration between the ruling party and ODM leader Raila Odinga on matters of National interest.

The NMC met the Parliamentary leadership today morning for consultations, after which it granted permission to the party secretariat to engage ODM.

“It is noteworthy that in the last four years, while ODM has carried its mandate as
official minority Party in both the Senate and the National Assembly, it has remained a reliable ally to Jubilee Party in the passage of all critical bills that are important for the good governance of our country,” read part of the statement.

Jubilee Party says it will be formally writing to its Coalition partner KANU as is required by their Coalition agreement and etiquette about this development
and to seek their constructive engagement on the same.

The NMC and Parliamentary leadership has also authorised the Secretary General to formally write to Wiper Democratic Party, with whom Jubilee Party has signed a memorandum of cooperation, about the decision of the Party.

“The meeting also took cognizance of the good support Jubilee Party has received from the ANC and Ford Kenya on many occasions in Parliament. The SG was formally authorized to formally inform the two parties about this decision and to inform of the policy of the JP to keep the doors open for engagement premised on the spirit of fostering national cohesion within a context of mutual respect in our diversity,” noted the party.
